Apple Program

What is the Apple Program?

The Apple Literacy Program

Our ‘Teaching Guide’ outlines the ‘Apple Literacy Program’ and explains every element through the life cycle of an apple tree. It has been specifically developed to provide teachers with activity ideas, resources, and direction for modelling meaning across contexts and for delivering the program.

The apple core represents the Core words that form the basis of our program, providing a foundation for literacy growth. These words are strategically taught to support emergent literacy learners in reading and understanding the contexts of sentences with greater accuracy. Therefore, while they apply their knowledge of phonemes to decode words when reading familiar and unfamiliar texts, they also use their knowledge of ‘taught’ high-frequency Core words to support the accurate interpretation of meaning.

55 Core Words

We have included 55 words in our Core Vocabulary list. These words are generally found in decodable texts and used in early communication. Our Core Word program has been designed to create a common understanding among educators regarding the delivery and application of the words in our Core word readers, decodable texts and lesson plans. Our Teaching Guide is best used in conjunction with our reading books, decodable texts, 'Lesson Plans & Activities’ books and our ‘Crunch Time! - Words & Sounds’ books.
