Apple Readers
What are the Apple Readers?
Our series of reading books have been developed around specific themes. The themed photos and illustrations present a backdrop for the Core words used in each book. The strategic use of these photos and illustrations provide a number of key learning opportunities.
Our VI range has been especially developed to give children with low vision the very best opportunity to learn. Yellow framing is used around each picture to support children with low vision to focus on the illustrations more readily. Each book is carefully designed with deliberate and strategic use of colour, background and contrast for typescript and for images. Overall, the illustrations with their vibrant colours included in our VI range have been created to promote student interest, engagement and learning.
We advise that students are provided an opportunity to explore both sets of books, as choice is a building block for an inclusive educational practice. This choice will allow students to discover for themselves which visual format works better for them.
Series overview
Series 1 - ‘I Like’
The ‘I Like’ series is plant themed. This theme and the use of real world imagery provides opportunities for cross-curricular lessons.
Series 2 - ‘Look’
The ‘Look’ series is animal themed. This theme and the use of real world imagery provides opportunities for cross-curricular lessons.
Series 3 - ‘Stop & Go’
The ‘Stop & Go’ series is currently in development.
Series 4 - ‘Put’
The ‘Put’ series is currently in development.
